Nigeria’s Chidinma Adetshina Shines as 1st Runner-Up at Miss Universe 2024; Miss Denmark Crowned Winner
Chidinma Adetshina, who made history earlier this year by becoming Miss Universe Nigeria despite being initially rejected by South Africa, continued her impressive journey by finishing as the first runner-up at the 2024 Miss Universe pageant.
Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark was crowned Miss Universe 2024 during a dazzling ceremony in Mexico on Saturday night, edging out 124 contestants from around the world.
Theilvig’s victory marks a historic moment as she triumphed over fierce competition in the 73rd edition of the global pageant. She succeeds Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios, the 2023 Miss Universe, and becomes the first Danish woman to win the prestigious title.
This year’s Miss Universe contest was notable for its focus on inclusivity, with 18 mothers among the contestants, as well as debut appearances from countries like Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Moldova, and Somalia. The competition began with a record-breaking 125 entrants and saw an increase in the number of semifinalists from 20 to 30.
After the swimsuit parade, the field was narrowed down to 12 contestants, who then competed in the evening gown segment. The final five contestants were from Nigeria, Denmark, Thailand, Mexico, and Venezuela.
The final stage of the competition included two rounds of questions, followed by a final parade before Theilvig was crowned the winner. Mexico, Thailand, and Venezuela took the third, fourth, and fifth positions, respectively.
As the 2024 Miss Universe, Theilvig not only claims the coveted crown but also embarks on a global tour of 30 countries. Additionally, she will receive a year’s supply of cosmetics, jewelry, and, for the first time in Miss Universe history, will host her very own travel show.
Adetshina’s remarkable achievement as first runner-up has solidified her place as a trailblazer in the pageant world, making Nigeria proud with her outstanding performance on the global stage.
