NAF Airstrikes Eliminate Terrorists, Destroy Arms Depot in Niger

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted precision airstrikes that eliminated scores of terrorists, destroyed a significant arms depot, and targeted the residence of a notorious kingpin, Mallam Saleh, in Palele, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Mallam Saleh, a known ally of infamous terrorist leader Dogo Gide, was a central figure in orchestrating attacks, abductions, and extortion that plagued vulnerable communities in the region.

NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, in a statement on Monday, confirmed that the strikes were executed by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA on November 16, 2024.

Precision Airstrikes

The operation was the result of meticulous intelligence gathering and surveillance. Air Commodore Akinboyewa explained that NAF had been closely tracking Saleh’s movements to disrupt his network of terror.

“As NAF aircraft moved into position, terrorists on motorcycles were spotted in the target area,” he stated. “With swift and precise action, NAF assets delivered devastating strikes, obliterating the weapons cache and dealing a critical blow to the terrorists. A secondary explosion confirmed the destruction of their munitions, significantly crippling Saleh’s capabilities.”

Strategy and Impact

The airstrike is part of NAF’s broader logistics strangulation strategy aimed at decimating terrorist infrastructure and restoring peace to Shiroro and surrounding areas. This approach, combining airstrikes and coordinated ground operations, ensures sustained pressure on terrorist groups.

Air Commodore Akinboyewa emphasized the significance of the operation:

“The impact of this mission will be profound, as it degrades the operational capabilities of these criminals and protects innocent lives. The NAF will continue collaborating with surface forces to maintain dominance through constant patrols, enhanced situational awareness, and targeted interdictions.”

A Message of Assurance

This successful mission underscores NAF’s commitment to combating terrorism and restoring security to communities affected by extremist activities. The collaboration between air and ground forces signals a unified effort to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure long-term stability in Niger State and beyond.
