ICPC Monitors N610bn Worth of Projects Across 22 States

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched Phase 7 of its Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Exercise.

This initiative, which began in 2019, aims to assess the effective utilization of funds allocated to critical sectors such as education, health, agriculture, water resources, and power. The program tracks the progress and implementation of government-funded projects to ensure accountability and proper use of resources.

According to a statement by ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare, the current phase, which commenced on Monday, November 18, 2024, will evaluate 1,500 projects valued at N610 billion. The exercise will span 22 states across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, including Kwara, Niger, Kogi, FCT, Kebbi, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Lagos, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, Imo, Abia, and Enugu.

This phase covers projects executed by various government bodies, including intervention agencies such as the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Rural Electrification Agency (REA), National Primary Health Care Development Authority (NPHCDA), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), and the Ecological Fund Office.

The ICPC stated that the objective of the tracking exercise is to enhance adherence to due process, ensure value for money, and promote compliance with the project specifications outlined in contract documents.

In the previous phase, the ICPC monitored 1,900 projects worth N500 billion across 24 states. These projects were executed in key sectors such as education, health, agriculture, energy, water resources, power, and road infrastructure. They involved 1,355 contractors across 176 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Through this ongoing effort, the ICPC seeks to foster transparency and accountability in government spending while ensuring that projects deliver meaningful benefits to citizens.
