North Korea Sends 10,900 Troops to Support Russia in Ukraine War
North Korea has deployed approximately 10,900 troops to bolster Russia’s military efforts in the ongoing war in Ukraine, with some already engaged in combat operations.
The revelation came from a South Korean lawmaker on Wednesday, citing intelligence from the country’s National Intelligence Service (NIS).
Military and Arms Support
In addition to troop deployment, North Korea has supplied Russia with military hardware, including self-propelled howitzers and multiple rocket launchers. Lee Seong-kweun, a member of South Korea’s parliamentary intelligence committee, disclosed the information to reporters.
The NIS also noted that North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during her recent visit to Moscow. This interaction, described as unusual in diplomatic protocol, is believed to have covered more than ceremonial greetings. According to another intelligence committee member, Park Sun-won, the discussions may have included a potential visit to Russia by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Casualties and Uncertainty
South Korea’s intelligence agency is working to verify the number of North Korean troop casualties and whether any soldiers have surrendered amid conflicting reports.
This marks a significant step in the deepening alliance between Russia and North Korea, with Pyongyang providing both manpower and weaponry as the war in Ukraine continues to escalate.
