ICPC Tracks ₦41bn Constituency and Executive Projects in Kano

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched the tracking of 106 constituency and executive projects valued at ₦41 billion in Kano State.

In a statement, the State Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Barr. Ibrahim Garba Kagara, revealed that the initiative targets 99 constituency projects and seven executive projects spread across Kano’s 44 local government areas.

Objective of the Tracking Exercise

Kagara outlined the exercise’s primary goals:

  1. To ensure the projects are executed faithfully and in line with approved specifications.
  2. To curb wastage and corruption in project implementation.
  3. To guarantee the proper application of government resources for the benefit of the people.

He also urged community members to take ownership of the projects in their areas and report any irregularities to the ICPC.

Priority Sectors

The Commission has prioritized projects in sectors that directly impact citizens’ lives, including:

  • Education
  • Health
  • Agriculture
  • Water supply
  • Rural roads
  • Power
  • Youth empowerment

Collaboration with Stakeholders

Kagara highlighted the ICPC’s collaboration with key stakeholders in carrying out the tracking exercise. These include:

  • The media
  • The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS)
  • The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation
  • The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP)
  • Civil society organisations (CSOs)

He emphasized that these partnerships aim to enhance transparency and accountability in the execution of public projects.

The ICPC’s initiative aligns with its broader mandate to combat corruption and promote integrity in public service delivery. Through this tracking exercise, the Commission seeks to ensure that public resources are effectively utilized to improve the well-being of citizens across Kano State.
