JUST IN: Yahaya Bello Arraigned as Supporters Overwhelm Courtroom
Former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, was arraigned on Wednesday at the FCT High Court, sparking a large turnout of his supporters who thronged the courtroom.
The overwhelming crowd prompted Justice Maryann Anenih to abruptly leave the courtroom in frustration. She stated that she would not return until order was restored. Justice Anenih was scheduled to preside over the arraignment of Bello and two others on a 16-count charge.
Following the judge’s exit, Yahaya Bello, who had been seated in the front row, took it upon himself to manage the situation. Rising from his seat, the former governor addressed his supporters, urging them to vacate the courtroom immediately to restore order.
His intervention quickly calmed the tense atmosphere, as his followers complied without resistance, exiting the courtroom one by one. To ensure compliance, Bello stationed himself at the entrance, personally supervising the orderly departure of his supporters and aides.
The Federal Government’s legal team for the case is led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Kemi Pinheiro, while Bello’s defense is headed by SAN Joseph Bodunde Dauda.
Further updates are expected as the proceedings continue.
