Okpebholo Reinstates Edo Security Corps to Enhance Safety and Security

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, announced on Thursday the reinstatement of the Edo State Security Corps, lifting the suspension that had been imposed in September 2024.

A statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Ituah, explained that the reinstatement is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its security infrastructure and ensure the safety of its residents. The suspension was initially implemented by the Inspector General of Police ahead of the September 21, 2024, governorship election, following constitutional guidelines that designated election security as the sole responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force, supported by other agencies within the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

With the successful completion of the election, the Edo State Government has decided to reinstate the Security Corps to enhance the state’s security apparatus. “This move aims to bolster the state’s security framework and safeguard the welfare of our citizens,” said the statement.

As part of the reintegration process, all returning officers are required to report to the State Corps Commander’s office or their respective zonal offices (North, Central, South) to facilitate a smooth transition and the effective deployment of the Corps.

Additionally, the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Umar Musa Ikilor, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the safety and security of its people, highlighting the importance of the reinstatement in ensuring continuous protection for all residents.
