Canada Increases Application Fees for Temporary Resident Categories
Canada’s Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced an increase in application fees for several temporary resident categories, effective immediately. The fee hikes, ranging from 2.80% to 4.69%, will impact individuals seeking to restore their temporary resident status, return to Canada after inadmissibility, or apply for temporary resident permits (TRPs).
According to Immigration News Canada (INC), the updated fee structure covers eight different application categories, with varying increases. Some of the notable fee adjustments include:
- Restoration of Visitor Status: Increased to $239.75 from $229.00.
- Restoration of Student Status: Raised to $389.75 from $379.00.
- Restoration of Worker Status: Increased to $394.75 from $384.00.
- Authorization to Return to Canada: Increased to $479.75 from $459.55.
- Criminal Rehabilitation (based on criminality): Raised to $239.75 from $229.77.
- Criminal Rehabilitation (based on serious criminality): Increased to $1,199.00 from $1,148.87.
- Temporary Resident Permit (TRP): Increased to $239.75 from $229.77.
- International Experience Canada (IEC): Raised to $179.75 from $172.00.
For individuals deemed inadmissible and wishing to return to Canada, the fee for authorization to return has increased by 4.40%, primarily affecting those with prior violations or removal orders. Similarly, Temporary Resident Permits (TRPs) have seen a 4.34% increase, while the IEC program, which caters to young professionals and working holiday participants, has increased by 4.51%.
IRCC has advised applicants to ensure they pay the correct fees when submitting their applications. For online applications, the updated fees must be included at the time of submission. Those submitting applications by mail before December 1, 2024, with the old fees will not have their applications rejected, but they will be asked to pay the difference between the old and new fees. This can be done using the IRCC’s online payment tool under the “Make an additional payment or pay other fees” option.
The fee adjustments are part of IRCC’s periodic review to account for inflation and ensure the continued quality of service.
