Governor Fubara Denies Claims of Excessive Borrowing by His Administration
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday refuted claims that his administration has been engaging in excessive borrowing to fund governance. In a statement, Governor Fubara clarified that the only loan secured by his administration was a 200 billion naira facility, which is designated for the construction of the Ring Road project. This major infrastructure initiative will involve a 50km dual carriageway that will connect six local government areas within the state.
The governor encouraged concerned parties to verify this information with the Debt Management Office (DMO) to confirm the accuracy of his statement.
Governor Fubara made these remarks during the inauguration of the 11.8km Okehi-Umuola-Eberi road, a crucial link between the Etche and Omuma local government areas. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to the progress and well-being of Rivers State residents, despite efforts to discredit his governance.
In his address, the governor also assured the people of Etche and Omuma that additional projects are planned, including the completion of other roadworks and healthcare facilities in the region. He highlighted the importance of governance focused on development rather than political retaliation, referencing how a road project connecting Rivers State to Imo State through Etche was halted by the previous administration due to its proximity to the home of an opposition politician. Governor Fubara’s administration is now completing that road.
The inauguration of the Okehi-Umuola-Eberi road is part of a series of 14 projects scheduled for commissioning and groundbreaking between December 4 and December 21 under Governor Fubara’s leadership.
