NPA Management Team Tours Onne, Rivers Ports, Calls for Increased Revenue Generation

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Abubakar Dantsoho, recently visited the Onne Port complex and the Rivers Port in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as part of an operational tour to assess and improve port operations. During his visit, Dantsoho emphasized the importance of increasing investment in Nigerian ports to boost efficiency and overall performance.

As the newly elected President of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA), Dantsoho highlighted the Nigerian government’s commitment to growing the maritime sector and expanding operations at the nation’s ports. He urged terminal operators to take full advantage of President Bola Tinubu’s investor-friendly initiatives and increase their investments, especially given Nigeria’s large population and potential for growth in the maritime industry.

Dantsoho also reassured stakeholders that the government is investing heavily in port infrastructure, with ongoing plans to develop the Apapa and Tin Can ports in Lagos. He emphasized the need for Nigerian ports to align with global environmental standards, urging terminal operators to adopt best practices in sustainability.

At Onne Port, Dantsoho visited several key facilities, including INTELS Logistics Nigeria Ltd, the Multi-purpose Terminal, the West African Container Terminal, and Indorama Plc. He commended INTELS for its significant investment in the port, describing the company as a model for others to emulate.

The NPA MD then proceeded to Rivers Port, where he was received by the Port Manager, Mrs. Kenechi Okezie. During his address to stakeholders, Dantsoho stressed the need for increased revenue generation to fund essential equipment purchases and worker welfare. He assured the stakeholders that the government remains committed to enhancing the welfare of workers to ensure greater efficiency across port operations.

Mrs. Kenechi Okezie, the Managing Director of Rivers Port, welcomed Dantsoho’s visit and assured him that she would continue to work towards improving the port’s operations.
