Police Uncover Gun Factory Operated by Father and Sons in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has uncovered a gun manufacturing operation run by a father and his sons, where various firearms were being fabricated. The discovery was made following credible information, leading to a raid at the facility by police operatives.

During a press briefing on Monday at the Command Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph O. Eribo, revealed the significant breakthrough. He explained that police, acting on reliable intelligence, swiftly raided the gun factory and arrested one suspect, David Nse Emmanuel, while his father, Akpan Nse Emmanuel, and his brothers managed to flee the scene.

Among the items recovered were seven newly made single-barrel guns, five double-barrel guns, a special steel double-trigger pistol, a broken single-barrel gun, a trigger-handle walking stick knife, and several cut iron pipes used for manufacturing gun barrels.

Eribo confirmed that the gun factory had been selling firearms to criminals, and assured the public that efforts are underway to capture the fleeing suspects.

In addition to the gun factory bust, the police also apprehended a suspected child trafficker, Promise Boniface. Boniface had abducted five children from a single mother, but the children were successfully rescued and reunited with their family. The abduction had occurred on November 14, 2024, when a distress call was made by the mother, reporting that an unknown man had taken her children on a motorcycle. The police later recovered the motorcycle used in the crime.

The police have vowed to continue their efforts in addressing crime and ensuring public safety in the region.
