Explosions Rock Zamfara Communities Amid Growing Insecurity
Multiple explosions have rocked the Dansadau District of Maru Local Government Area (LGA) in Zamfara State, raising concerns about the escalating insecurity in the North-Western region. Two explosive devices detonated on Friday along the Dansadau-Malamawa and Malele Roads in the district. Reports indicate that passengers traveling to the weekly market in Dansadau narrowly escaped death when one of the explosive devices detonated after their grain-loaded vehicle ran over it. Although the vehicle was damaged, no casualties were reported.
This marked the third such incident in the past week, intensifying fears of rising violence. Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, a deadly explosion killed 12 people when an explosive device blew up a bridge in Yar Tasha village. The device had been triggered by a commercial vehicle carrying passengers traveling to Dansadau town. The explosion occurred around 8 am, leaving the local community in shock and prompting calls for urgent security measures.
A similar attack occurred on Sunday, when an 18-seater bus ran over a planted explosive, killing the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The recent wave of explosions has been linked to a newly identified terror group known as Lakurawa. Zamfara’s Police Commissioner, Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, stated on Wednesday that the group has been responsible for the explosives planted along major highways, targeting innocent civilians and commuters.
The frequent attacks have left residents in fear and have sparked demands for swift action from security agencies to restore peace in the region.
