Kano Government Condemns Police Blockade of Emir Sanusi’s Palace
The Kano State Government has expressed its condemnation of the police blockade of the entrance to the palace of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II on Friday. This action by heavily armed security personnel has caused distress and raised tensions in the state, according to a statement from the state’s Commissioner for Information, Halilu Baba Dantiye.
The government expressed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the state, describing the blockade as an unfortunate incident that disrupted the peace and dignity of traditional institutions. While the reasons behind the police action have not been officially disclosed, it is speculated that the blockade may be linked to Emir Sanusi II’s planned meetings, including one on the Nigerian economy and tax reform, and his scheduled appointment of a new District Head for Bichi, a former Emirate dissolved by the state government.
Despite the police presence with anti-riot vehicles, Emir Sanusi II reportedly left his residence on horseback to attend the palace for his sessions. Efforts to contact the state’s Commissioner of Police and the Public Relations Office of the Police Command for clarification on the incident were unsuccessful.
At the time of the report, the situation in Kano was peaceful, with residents continuing their daily activities without further incidents. The Kano State Government has urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could escalate tensions.
