Lakurawa Terrorists Will Soon Become History – Army Chief
Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has expressed confidence that the insurgent group known as Lakurawa will soon be eradicated. He highlighted the increased collaboration with neighboring countries, particularly Niger Republic, as a key factor in the fight against the group.
Oluyede made these remarks after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he reassured the President of his commitment to improving Nigeria’s security. He emphasized that his approach to tackling insecurity would be fresh and innovative, aiming for better results.
During his recent visits to military formations in Nigeria’s Northwest and Northeast regions, the Army Chief met with officers and soldiers, stressing the urgency of addressing the various security challenges facing the country. He urged his team to focus on ending the insecurity and achieving tangible progress.
Oluyede explained that while Nigerian forces have been intensifying their operations against the Lakurawa group on the Nigerian side, insurgents often flee into neighboring Niger Republic. However, with increased cooperation from Niger, the Army Chief believes that the insurgency will soon be crushed, making Lakurawa a thing of the past.
In his statement, Oluyede reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s security and expressed his belief that new approaches and continued support from President Tinubu would lead to more effective security outcomes.
