NLC Suspends 1-Week Warning Strike In Ebonyi
The Ebonyi State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has officially suspended its one-week warning strike, which had commenced on December 2, 2024, over the non-implementation of the new minimum wage.
The suspension was announced in a statement from the Strike Implementation Committee following a review meeting by the State Executive Committee of the NLC after the expiration of the strike on December 8, 2024. The union highlighted that the decision was made in light of the state government’s positive engagement with the union.
The statement noted that the Ebonyi State government has shown strong commitment to negotiations by consistently involving the NLC in meetings since December 7, 2024. Additionally, the state governor had made a passionate appeal for the acceptance of the payment method used for the October and November 2024 salaries, pending a review backed by a stronger financial position for the state.
The governor also assured the NLC of continued goodwill to improve the welfare of Ebonyi workers. Consequently, the union has directed workers in the state to resume their duties while further discussions on improving the welfare of workers in line with the new minimum wage act continue.
The NLC thanked workers for their solidarity and commitment during the strike period.
