New Customs Area Controller Pledges To Tackle Smuggling in Ogun

The newly appointed Customs Area Controller (CAC) for Ogun 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Deputy Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu, has pledged to focus on curbing smuggling and enhancing border security in the region. Shuaibu made the commitment during a handover ceremony at the Ogun 1 Command in Idiroko, Ipokia local government area, following the retirement of his predecessor, Comptroller James Ojo, who served for 35 years.

Shuaibu, who previously led the disbanded Sector 2 of the Federal Government’s Joint Border Patrol Team, expressed his resolve to balance enforcement efforts with trade facilitation. He emphasized his experience in anti-smuggling operations and his understanding of the challenges faced at Ogun 1, a key frontier for both trade and security.

“In Ogun 1 Command, I understand the complexity of border operations, and I am committed to ensuring that we balance enforcement with the facilitation of legitimate trade,” Shuaibu said, noting his determination to tackle these challenges directly.

He further highlighted that his vision for the command would focus on teamwork, innovation, and discipline. He urged the cooperation of all personnel, as well as traditional rulers and other stakeholders from the border communities, to join in his mission to strengthen operations and achieve new standards of excellence.

Shuaibu also pledged to maintain strong collaboration with other security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), to ensure comprehensive border security and the smooth flow of legitimate trade.

In his address, outgoing CAC James Ojo commended the personnel for their support during his tenure and urged them to extend the same cooperation to the new Controller.
