Solving Ukraine Crisis My Top Priority, Says Trump
Donald Trump has stated that resolving the Ukraine crisis will be his top priority upon assuming office next month, calling it more urgent than issues in the Middle East. In an interview with French magazine Paris Match, recorded on Saturday and released on Wednesday, Trump emphasized the dire situation in Ukraine.
“I think we have to solve the Ukraine problem with Russia,” Trump said, pointing out the staggering number of casualties on both sides of the conflict. “Both those countries are losing numbers that nobody can believe. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers are being killed,” he added.
While acknowledging the importance of addressing the Middle East, Trump described it as a “less difficult situation” compared to Ukraine. He reiterated that both crises must be resolved swiftly, stating, “A lot of people are dying.”
During his visit to Paris for the reopening of the Notre Dame cathedral, following its 2019 fire, Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump mentioned, “We had a good meeting with President Zelensky,” and on Tuesday, Zelensky expressed gratitude for Trump’s “strong resolve” to end the war.
Trump has previously claimed he could resolve the Ukraine conflict in 24 hours and renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations on his Truth Social platform. Additionally, he reiterated his stance on Syria, stating that the U.S. should not intervene further, asserting, “Syria will have to take care of itself.”
