In preparation for the Christmas season, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has approved the early disbursement of December salaries and pensions for civil servants and retirees on the state payroll. The payments, initiated on Friday, December 13, 2024, reflect the Governor’s commitment to the welfare of the state’s workforce.
A statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, on Saturday emphasized Zulum’s dedication to inclusivity and unity among Borno’s residents during the yuletide. The statement read:
“Governor Zulum directed, as always, that no affected Christians, Muslims, or others should feel excluded during and after the yuletide, given the socio-cultural harmony and inclusivity that define Borno State, particularly during this festive period. December 2024 salaries and pensions have already started hitting the accounts of beneficiaries, enabling them to prepare for a joyous celebration.”
A Record of Commitment to Workers’ Welfare
The statement highlighted Governor Zulum’s consistent track record of timely payments, including being among the first states to implement the N70,000 minimum wage. His administration has been lauded for prioritizing the welfare of civil servants and retirees.
During the presentation of the 2025 budget at the State Assembly, Governor Zulum reiterated his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare. This includes:
- Upgrading the state’s salary payment system.
- Implementing a new N72,000 minimum wage.
- Addressing outstanding gratuities for deceased workers.
Fostering Inclusivity and Peace
Governor Zulum’s early payment directive reflects his dedication to fostering inclusivity and ensuring financial ease for all residents during Christmas. He also urged the people of Borno to continue praying for peace and stability in the state and across Nigeria.
The Governor praised the impact of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, acknowledging its role in improving the lives of Borno citizens.
