Shine Your Eyes, Gov Mohammed Advises Tinubu to Remove ‘Excess Baggage’ from Cabinet

Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove what he termed as “excess baggage” within his administration. Speaking as the special guest at the commissioning of the 14.1km Umuakali-Eberi Road in Omuma Local Government Area, Rivers State, Mohammed emphasized the importance of decisive leadership and governance-focused action.

Confidence in Leadership, Concern Over Cabinet

Governor Mohammed acknowledged the confidence of governors in President Tinubu’s leadership but noted that certain members of his cabinet might be undermining his efforts. He urged the President to address these issues, stating, “You must throw away the excess baggage.”

Mohammed also commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his governance achievements despite political challenges, expressing his satisfaction with Fubara’s ability to lead effectively.

Praise for Governor Fubara

Governor Mohammed lauded Fubara’s maturity and composure in handling the political crisis in Rivers State, describing him as a leader whose performance outweighs his political experience.

“Governor Fubara exemplifies that political maturity is not defined by longevity in politics,” he said. Mohammed went on to urge Rivers residents to support Fubara for a second term in 2027, noting that his achievements make him more of a “field marshal” than a “general.”

Developmental Projects in Omuma

In his remarks, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the people of Omuma for their unwavering support during the state’s political crisis. He described the newly commissioned Umuakali-Eberi Road project as a key milestone for the area’s development.

Fubara highlighted his administration’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises, emphasizing his focus on building competent leaders to drive rapid development rather than promoting individuals.

As part of his developmental agenda, Fubara announced plans to take over the revamping of a secondary school and healthcare center in Omuma from the Local Government Chairman, Promise Reginald. He also pledged to reconstruct additional roads in the area to further enhance infrastructure.

Call for Inclusive Leadership

Governor Mohammed concluded by urging politicians to know when to step aside for younger leaders. He commended Fubara’s leadership style as a model for others to emulate, stressing that governance should prioritize the people over politics.

This collaborative event between the two governors showcased a shared commitment to development and the importance of effective leadership in addressing political and infrastructural challenges.
