Ex-Kogi Deputy Speaker Enema Paul Passes Away in Abuja
The immediate-past Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Enema Paul, has passed away.
Paul, who was serving his second term in the Assembly as the representative of Okura State Constituency, succumbed to an undisclosed illness in a private hospital in Abuja during the early hours of Saturday. He had previously stepped down from his role as Deputy Speaker due to health concerns and was succeeded by Hon. Comfort Nwuchola, representing Ibaji State Constituency.
Tributes from the Speaker
The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Aliyu Yusuf, confirmed the news in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mohammed Yabagi. The Speaker described Paul as a dedicated, humble, and team-oriented legislator who worked tirelessly for the unity and progress of Kogi State.
In his tribute, Yusuf said:
“The former Deputy Speaker exemplified commitment to the unity of the state, demonstrating a genuine desire to enhance pro-people legislation for development. He was a Christian who looked beyond religion and upheld family values.”
He extended his condolences to Paul’s family and prayed for strength for his loved ones and colleagues in the Assembly.
State Government’s Condolence
The Kogi State Government also expressed deep sorrow over the lawmaker’s passing. In a statement by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, the government praised Paul’s legacy of dedication and service to the people of Kogi.
The statement read:
“Paul served Kogi State with great dedication, serving as a Commissioner for Rural Development, a Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, and a sitting member until his untimely demise. He embodied hard work, unity, and a commitment to the progress of our dear state.”
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo described Paul’s death as a significant loss to the state, particularly to his family and the people of Dekina Local Government Area.
“Our hearts go out to his immediate and extended family, the people of Dekina LGA, and all those touched by his life of service. We stand united in grief and will support his family during this difficult time,” the statement added.
Legacy
Enema Paul was remembered for his dedication to public service and his focus on fostering unity and progress in Kogi State. His untimely demise leaves a void in the state’s legislature and his constituency, where he was regarded as a committed advocate for development and the welfare of his constituents.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
