Bolaji Abdullahi Resigns From PDP in Kwara

A former Minister of Sports and close ally of ex-Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.

Abdullahi announced his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of his Ubandawaki Ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area.

The Resignation

Dated December 16, 2024, the letter was confirmed by Alhaji Mas’ud Adebimpe, a former Chief Press Secretary to Dr. Saraki and an ally of Abdullahi.

In his letter, Abdullahi described his decision as a “difficult” one, reached after “days of reflection and introspection.”

He expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership for the opportunities to serve, stating:

“I have had ample time to reflect, and I have come to the difficult conclusion that this is the only tenable option for me at this time.

“Please permit me to express, through you, my gratitude to the leadership of the party for the opportunities I have had to serve the state and the country on its platform, and for the great moments we have shared.”

PDP’s Response

Reacting to the development, the Kwara PDP Publicity Secretary, Olushola Adewara, described Abdullahi’s resignation as a personal decision, stating that the party holds no ill feelings toward him.

“The decision is personal to him as reflected in his letter of resignation. He didn’t state whether the party or our leader offended him.

“We wish the former minister well in his adventures. The party can only wish him good luck on his adventure.”

Adewara emphasized that Abdullahi’s move was independent of any grievance with the party or its leadership.

Background

Bolaji Abdullahi, a prominent figure in Kwara politics, served as a minister under the Goodluck Jonathan administration and remained a loyalist of Dr. Bukola Saraki. His exit signals a shift in his political trajectory, although his next steps remain unclear.
