COAS Presents Bank Cheques To Relatives Of Deceased Personnel, 12 Hilux Vana To RSMs

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel and their families. During the opening of the 2024 COAS Annual Conference in Abuja, he presented bank cheques to the Next-of-Kin (NOK) of deceased personnel under the Group Life Insurance scheme and awarded Hilux vans to 12 Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) as part of morale-boosting initiatives.

Lt.-Gen. Oluyede emphasized the Army’s dedication to supporting widows, NOKs, and personnel who have sustained disabilities in the line of duty. This includes financial assistance, healthcare access, and educational sponsorship for dependents. He noted that such welfare programs honor the sacrifices of fallen heroes and ensure the stability of affected families.

Key highlights of his address included:

  • Troop Welfare: Plans to enhance welfare schemes and introduce systematic troop rotations to prevent fatigue, boost morale, and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Operational Readiness: Commending troops for their efforts in safeguarding the nation and urging them to surpass their 2023 achievements.
  • Presidential Support: Expressing gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his strategic guidance and support of the Nigerian Army.

Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Ibrahim, Chief of Policy and Plans, acknowledged the Army’s progress in combating internal and external threats but highlighted persistent challenges in the Northwest, Northeast, and Southeast regions. He stressed the importance of the conference in critically assessing operations to enhance the Army’s overall performance and achieve strategic objectives.

The conference serves as a platform for addressing key issues and strengthening the Army’s capacity to meet its constitutional responsibilities effectively.
