1 Dies As Truck Rams Into Pedestrian In Lagos
A tragic road accident on Tuesday claimed the life of a yet-to-be-identified pedestrian at the Iyana Ishasi U-turn, along the Oshodi-Isolo Expressway in Lagos. The incident occurred in the early hours of the day, involving a fully loaded Howo truck, which did not have registration details.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, the cause of the accident was over-speeding. Preliminary findings showed that the truck, attempting to navigate through traffic at excessive speed, suffered a brake failure, leading to a catastrophic loss of control. The vehicle then veered off its path and struck the pedestrian, causing instant fatality.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and LASTMA operatives responded swiftly to the scene, with officers from the Ishasi Police Division providing additional security support during the rescue operation.
In a statement, LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family, praying for strength in this difficult time. He emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance, adherence to traffic regulations, and the need for motorists to be safety-conscious to prevent such tragedies.
Bakare-Oki reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to promoting road safety and reducing accidents across Lagos State.
