Opposition Coalition Alleges Secret Plot to Implicate Spokesman Ugochinyere

Nigeria’s opposition political parties, under the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), have raised an alarm over what they describe as a covert plot to frame their spokesman, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere. The coalition claims the alleged scheme involves framing Ugochinyere with charges of bribery of judicial officers, criminal defamation, treason, and other fabricated offences, in an attempt to silence and discredit him.

During a world press conference in Abuja, the leadership of the CUPP, including Secretary-General Peter Ameh and co-spokesman Comrade Mark Adebayo, warned that severe consequences would follow if any harm befell Ugochinyere. They accused certain political operatives of using underhanded tactics to smear Ugochinyere’s reputation, emphasizing that he is an incorruptible voice of the opposition.

The coalition alleged that the plot to frame Ugochinyere, accusing him of bribing judicial officers, was a direct retaliation for his vocal opposition to attempts to hijack the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and weaken the broader opposition in Nigeria. They described the fabricated charges as part of a wider attempt to suppress dissent and undermine the credibility of Ugochinyere.

“The fabricated allegations against him are unfounded and show the extremes to which some will go to maintain power and silence critical voices,” the CUPP stated. They called for an immediate investigation into the allegations and the conduct of the implicated security agencies, stressing the need for accountability for those misusing their positions for political gain.

The CUPP also announced plans to mobilize supporters nationwide for peaceful protests to highlight the injustice. These protests are intended to provide citizens with a platform to express their dissatisfaction with the manipulation of state institutions for political purposes.

“We will not stand idly by while efforts are made to undermine democracy and stifle free speech,” the coalition declared, urging all Nigerians who value democracy to join in defending Ugochinyere.

The CUPP pointed out that Ugochinyere had previously faced similar fabricated charges—treason, subversion, and others—during his election campaign, and despite these challenges, he was victorious and continued to speak out. The coalition emphasized that Ugochinyere would not be cowed by these tactics.

In conclusion, the CUPP affirmed its commitment to defending Ugochinyere on multiple fronts: in the court of public opinion, in the legal arena, and through peaceful demonstrations. “The opposition will stand united in protecting one of Nigeria’s most steadfast advocates for democratic reform,” they concluded.
