Tinubu’s 2025 Budget Key To National Development – Akpabio
Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has hailed President Bola Tinubu’s 2025 Appropriation Bill as a critical blueprint for Nigeria’s transformation, describing it as a defining moment in the nation’s democratic journey.
During the President’s budget presentation to a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday, Akpabio commended Tinubu’s leadership, calling it a beacon of hope in challenging times, and stressed the importance of unity and collaboration to shape the future of Nigeria.
Akpabio praised the administration’s reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies, which he described as a bold move to redirect resources to vital sectors like education and healthcare. These actions, he noted, reflected Tinubu’s commitment to Nigeria’s economic stability and growth.
He also highlighted the significance of the administration’s tax reforms, including four Tax Bills before the National Assembly, which he said would rejuvenate small and medium enterprises, enhance competitiveness, and improve Nigeria’s revenue base. “These reforms mark the first comprehensive tax overhaul since our independence,” he added.
Furthermore, Akpabio lauded Tinubu’s achievements in boosting government revenues to NGN18.32 trillion, reducing debt servicing from 97% to 68%, increasing oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day, and launching groundbreaking social welfare programs like the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative.
The Senate President also emphasized the administration’s infrastructure revival, underscoring its role in fostering economic growth and connecting communities. Additionally, he celebrated the progress made in strengthening national security, with the liberation of communities previously under terrorist threats and the neutralization of over 11,000 insurgents.
Akpabio called for continued collaboration between the Executive and Legislative branches, urging ministers and agency heads to respect legislative oversight and defend their budget allocations. He warned that any constitutional breaches would not be tolerated.
Acknowledging the economic hardships Nigerians are facing, Akpabio likened them to “the pains of childbirth” and urged citizens to remain patient and confident in the administration’s vision. “Together, we will build a Nigeria that we can all be proud of,” he assured.
Akpabio concluded by pledging the National Assembly’s commitment to a thorough and timely evaluation of the 2025 budget, ensuring that it reflects the priorities and aspirations of the Nigerian people.
The session ended with President Tinubu formally presenting the 2025 Appropriation Bill, reaffirming the shared commitment of both the Executive and Legislature to a prosperous and united Nigeria.
