Confusion As Tinubu Appoints Two MDs for Upper Niger River Basin Authority
A wave of confusion has emerged following the appointment of two managing directors for the Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority (UNRBDA) by President Bola Tinubu.
President Tinubu initially appointed Aliyu Tajudeen as the Managing Director and CEO of UNRBDA about two months ago. Tajudeen’s appointment was communicated in an official letter dated October 30, 2024, signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume. The letter, referenced SGF.51/S.4/T/368, confirmed that Tajudeen’s appointment took effect from October 29, 2024, and is set for a four-year term.
However, in a surprising development, President Tinubu later appointed Dangajere Shuaibu Bawa Jaja as the Managing Director of the same Authority. This announcement was made public in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Wednesday. Jaja’s appointment came alongside the appointments of six executive directors for UNRBDA.
The situation has raised questions regarding the apparent mix-up in the leadership of the Authority. Efforts to reach Bayo Onanuga for clarification on the matter were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
This confusion has left many wondering about the status of the two appointments and the possible implications for the operations of UNRBDA.
