Tinubu Mourns Ibadan Funfair Tragedy, Orders Investigation
President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident at the Children’s Funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, which resulted in the loss of young lives and left many others injured.
In a statement released by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Oyo State, as well as to the grieving families who have lost their children in this devastating event.
“During this moment of mourning, I stand in solidarity with the affected families and pray that the Almighty God grants peace to the souls of those who have tragically passed,” Tinubu said.
The President also directed the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. He emphasized the need to determine whether negligence or the actions of the event’s organisers played a role in the incident, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability.
He urged the Oyo State Government to implement all necessary measures to prevent such tragedies in the future, including a comprehensive review of safety protocols for public events, rigorous enforcement of safety regulations, and regular safety audits of event venues.
In addition, Tinubu called on event organisers to prioritise the safety of all attendees, particularly children, and ensure that professional security, logistics, and protocols are integrated into the planning of such events to guarantee the safety of everyone involved.
“Our children’s safety and well-being must always come first. No event should ever jeopardise their safety or place their lives at risk,” Tinubu concluded.
