Again, Emefiele Loses Land, Warehouse With 54 Loaded Containers To Federal Gov’t
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the final forfeiture of a piece of land and a warehouse containing 54 general-purpose steel containers to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The forfeiture was ordered by Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Thursday, December 19, 2024. The warehouse, located at Km 8 along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Magboro, is built on 1.925 hectares of land and contains steel containers filled with sewing machines of various shapes.
This development follows an earlier interim forfeiture order issued by the court on November 28, 2024, after an application by the EFCC. The Commission was directed to publish the interim order in two national newspapers, allowing any interested parties to contest the forfeiture.
During the resumed hearing, EFCC Counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court of compliance with the publication directive and cited relevant provisions of the Constitution and the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006. He urged the court to grant the final forfeiture.
Justice Dipeolu granted the EFCC’s request, finalizing the forfeiture of both the land and the warehouse to the federal government.
This latest ruling marks another milestone in the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to recover assets linked to financial misconduct, including those allegedly tied to the former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
