Land Title: I’m Not Owing FCTA, Says Speaker Abbas
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has denied claims that he owes the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for land title payments.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, the Speaker clarified that he owns only one parcel of land in the FCT and fully settled any outstanding payment in October 2024, following a public notice by the FCTA.
The Speaker expressed concern over the inclusion of his name in a list of individuals with unpaid dues, which reportedly led to the revocation of land titles.
Speaker Abbas’ Response:
- Payment Already Settled: The Speaker stated that his payment obligations were cleared months ago and questioned the accuracy of the FCTA’s records.
- Call for Circumspection: Abbas urged the FCTA to exercise caution and thoroughness when addressing such sensitive matters to prevent misinformation.
- Warning to the Media: The Speaker cautioned media outlets to verify facts before publishing reports that could misrepresent him or other public officials.
“The media are, therefore, urged to desist from further publishing or spreading such misleading information about the person of the Speaker,” the statement emphasized.
This development comes amid broader discussions about land title revocations in the FCT, with affected individuals being advised to address any unresolved issues promptly.
