Yuletide: Ugochinyere Applauds Kyari, Dangote, NMDPRA, NNPCL Over Petrol Availability

Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), has praised the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Dangote Refinery, and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for ensuring a consistent supply of petrol during the festive season.

Ugochinyere emphasized that the availability of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol, is the result of strategic planning and implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), which seeks to reform Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Key Drivers of Petrol Availability

  1. NNPCL’s Efforts
    • The state-owned corporation has prioritized a steady supply of petrol nationwide, addressing a critical need for citizens and businesses.
  2. Dangote Refinery’s Contribution
    • The refinery’s operations have significantly boosted local production, reducing dependency on imported fuel and stabilizing the supply chain amid global market uncertainties.
  3. NMDPRA’s Oversight
    • The regulatory authority has ensured effective fuel distribution and pricing, fostering a predictable market environment and protecting consumer interests.

Impact of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA)

Ugochinyere noted that the reforms introduced by the PIA, although initially challenging, have laid the groundwork for sustainable practices and transparency in the petroleum industry. The act has been instrumental in attracting investments, improving regulatory oversight, and securing energy needs.

Call for Sustained Efforts

While commending the achievements, Ugochinyere urged stakeholders to maintain collaboration to ensure continued progress. He reiterated his commitment to supporting policies that strengthen Nigeria’s petroleum sector and promote energy security.

The commendation highlights a significant shift in Nigeria’s approach to managing its petroleum resources, signaling a commitment to long-term stability and sustainability in the energy sector. Strategic partnerships among NNPCL, Dangote Refinery, and NMDPRA will remain crucial as Nigeria navigates these reforms and works toward energy independence.
