NDLEA Arrests 415 Suspects, Seizes 1.2 Tonnes of Drugs in Bauchi
The Bauchi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of 415 drug suspects and the seizure of 1.2 tonnes of various illicit drugs in 2024.
The seized drugs, confiscated between January and December, include Cannabis Sativa (commonly called “wee-wee”), Diazepam, Exol-5, Pentazocine, Methamphetamine, Rohypnol, and Tramadol.
State Commander of the NDLEA, CN Ali Aminu, disclosed these figures during an interview with journalists in Bauchi on Tuesday. He provided an update on the Command’s legal actions, revealing that 70 cases were charged to court, 84 suspects were successfully prosecuted, and 18 cases remain pending at the Federal High Court in Bauchi.
Aminu also highlighted the agency’s rehabilitation efforts, noting that 137 drug users had been counseled and rehabilitated, most through brief interventions while in NDLEA custody.
In his statement, CN Aminu issued a stern warning to the public against the illicit use and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. “Anyone caught with hard drugs will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he emphasized.
He extended his appreciation to the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), for revitalizing the agency and instilling a renewed sense of dedication among its personnel in combating drug abuse and trafficking.
Aminu also commended the collaboration with sister security agencies, which contributed significantly to the successful apprehension of drug dealers. He urged continued cooperation to curb the menace of illicit drug trafficking and abuse in the state.
