Yuletide: Kwara Police Ban Use of Fireworks, Explosives
The Kwara State Police Command has prohibited the sale, distribution, and use of fireworks and other explosive devices during the Christmas and New Year festivities to ensure public safety and security.
Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya announced this measure in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi. He warned that violators would face strict legal consequences.
“The use, sale, or distribution of fireworks, bangers, and other explosive devices is strictly prohibited,” the statement read. “These items pose serious security and safety risks, including creating panic and potentially being used as a cover for criminal activities. Violators will face the full wrath of the law.”
Restrictions on Movement
The police reiterated that the existing 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. restriction on the movement of motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke Napep) remains in effect. This measure aims to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety during the festive season.
