5 Rescued From Multiple Accident In Lagos
A Christmas Day tragedy was narrowly averted when five individuals were rescued following a multiple-vehicle accident involving two commercial buses at Iyana-Era inward Agbara, along the Mile 2-Badagry Expressway in Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, attributing the cause to excessive speeding and brake failure in one of the buses.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, the accident occurred when a T4 commercial bus (registration number LSD 668 YE), traveling at high speed toward Agbara, experienced a brake failure. The malfunction caused the vehicle to collide with an LT commercial bus (registration number BDG 728 YE) that was stationary at Iyana-Iba bus stop, loading passengers.
Taofiq stated, “In a commendable demonstration of rapid response, LASTMA officials successfully rescued five severely injured passengers—three males and two females.”
The injured individuals were transported to Eva-Life Hospital near Iyana-Era for urgent medical care.
Security personnel from the Ijanikin Police Division provided crucial assistance during the rescue operation, ensuring the safety of those involved and maintaining order at the scene.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended his sympathies to the injured and wished them a speedy recovery. He emphasized the importance of routine vehicle maintenance, particularly brake checks, urging drivers to prioritize safety before embarking on trips.
He also reminded the public to report traffic emergencies by contacting LASTMA’s toll-free hotline: 080000527862.
