Military Denies Airstrikes Hit Civilians In Sokoto

The Joint Task Force North-West Operation Fansan Yamma has refuted claims that its recent airstrikes in Sokoto State hit civilian targets, clarifying that the operations were aimed at terrorists associated with the Lakurawa group.

Lt-Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Center for Operation Fansan Yamma, addressed the reports of a military fighter jet bombing civilian structures in Silame local government area. He explained that all military airstrikes are conducted following thorough intelligence and reconnaissance missions to ensure precision and minimize the risk to civilian lives.

Lt-Col. Abdullahi emphasized the meticulous nature of these operations, particularly when targeting terrorist groups like the Lakurawa organization. He urged the public to rely on verified information to avoid the spread of misinformation and panic.

“The military ensures that all targets are carefully identified before any action is taken,” he said. “In this case, the targets in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa were confirmed to be linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group, validating the justification for the airstrike.”

The military spokesperson further cautioned against disinformation campaigns that could be aimed at undermining military efforts in the fight against terrorism and banditry in the region.
