Gov Otti Signs Abia’s 2025 Budget Of N750.28bn Into Law

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has officially signed the state’s 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, with a total value of N750.28 billion. The signing ceremony, which took place on Saturday, marked the completion of the budget’s legislative process.

Governor Otti expressed his appreciation to members of the Abia State House of Assembly for the swift passage of the bill, commending them for giving it an accelerated hearing. He emphasized that the budget would provide the necessary foundation to fulfill the administration’s promises to the people.

“This budget will give us the impetus to continue to fire on all cylinders to ensure that our people are living a good life,” Otti said. He acknowledged the legislative body for its diligence in scrutinizing the budget, highlighting that their ability to disagree on certain areas and accept reasonable responses exemplifies the transparency and seriousness of his administration.

The Governor also emphasized that 82 percent of the budget was allocated to capital expenditures, underscoring his administration’s focus on infrastructure development. “When you have capital expenditure over 80 percent, it speaks to what you want to do with infrastructure—things that would outlast all of us,” Otti noted, reinforcing his commitment to long-term developmental projects.

Earlier, Emmanuel Emeruwa, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, described the budget as “very aggressive,” expressing optimism that it would address several pressing issues facing the state. Emeruwa assured that the legislature would continue working closely with the executive branch to ensure that the state progresses and achieves its development goals.

The signing of the 2025 budget is seen as a significant step in ensuring that Abia State continues to grow and improve in various sectors, particularly in infrastructure and development.
