Police Raid Kidnappers’ Hideout, Rescue 3 Victims in Nasarawa

Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have successfully raided a kidnappers’ hideout in Karu local government area and rescued three victims. The operation was carried out by officers from the Gitata Division of the Police Command.

The victims, identified as Abdulsalam Shuaibu, Sani Shuaibu, and Blessing Okorie, were abducted when their vehicle, a Volkswagen Sharon bus, was intercepted while traveling along the Kaduna-Keffi highway. The kidnappers whisked the trio away to an unknown location.

A statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the rescue. He stated, “Upon receiving the distress information, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Zaks Wambai, quickly mobilized his men to the scene. After combing the area, the kidnappers’ hideout was located and dislodged, leading to the safe rescue of the victims, who were unharmed.”

The Commissioner of Police for Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended the officers for their swift action and effectiveness in the operation. He urged them to continue their fight against criminal activities in the region.

In a separate operation, 34 cows were recovered by a joint team of police, military, and vigilantes in Akwanga local government area. The recovery followed a distress call on December 27, reporting an attack by suspected cattle rustlers on a farm in Akwanga. The rustlers had attacked the security guard with machetes, injuring him, and made off with the cattle.

Following the attack, security forces engaged in a gun battle with the suspects in Akun Forest, Nasarawa Eggon. DSP Nansel said, “Police operatives, together with military personnel and vigilantes, acted on the information and rescued the injured security guard, who was taken to the hospital for treatment. Later that day, the criminals were intercepted at Akun Forest. A gunfight ensued, resulting in two suspects being fatally wounded and arrested, while the stolen cows were recovered.”

The police continue their efforts to track down additional suspects involved in the attack and cattle rustling.
