AbdulRazaq, Senators, and Dignitaries Attend Oloro’s Coronation in Kwara

Oba Joel Titiloye Olufayo II has officially ascended the throne as the new Oloro of Oro Kingdom in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. His coronation marks the return of his lineage to the throne after 234 years.

The ceremony was steeped in tradition, with the Oloro-in-Council performing the necessary rites. It drew a large gathering of dignitaries from across Nigeria, including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Hon. Femi Agbaje.

Senators Saliu Mustapha and Lola Ashiru, who were also in attendance, sent high-ranking delegations to the event. Other notable figures included Hon. Raheem Ajuloopin, a member of the House of Representatives; the Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Otunba Biodun Ajiboye; and Asiwaju of Oro Kingdom, Retired Rear Admiral Azeez Afolayan. Additional attendees included Agba Akin of Oro Kingdom, Alhaji Yinka Quadri, and Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, Kwara State’s Commissioner for Communications.

The Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Ismail Alebiosu, who also chairs the Irepodun Traditional Council, led traditional rulers from Igbomina land to the ceremony.

In his address, Governor AbdulRazaq urged the newly crowned monarch to rule with integrity, fairness, and compassion, encouraging an open-door policy to further the development of the community. He emphasized that the coronation represented a call to serve and maintain the unity, culture, and heritage of Oro Kingdom. The governor also assured the community of his administration’s continued support for traditional institutions and reiterated his commitment to advancing the region’s development.

Oba Ismail Alebiosu commended the state government for ensuring a smooth and transparent selection process for the new Oloro. He urged the people of the kingdom to unite and avoid division, while advising the new monarch to work closely with the Oloro-in-Council, chiefs, elders, and other traditional leaders to strengthen the unity and progress of the kingdom. “The Kabiyesi has been divinely supported to ascend the throne. He should open his doors and carefully study the complexities of Oro Kingdom,” he said.

Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, Executive Secretary of NICO, highlighted the cultural importance of the coronation, stressing its role in preserving Nigeria’s rich heritage.

Dr. Thomas Adewumi, founder of Thomas Adewumi University in Oko-Irese, commended Oro Kingdom for its community-driven development initiatives. He also praised Governor AbdulRazaq’s equitable development agenda, revealing plans for a tertiary health institution in Kwara South. “This government is people-focused, committed to justice and equity. We are collaborating with the administration to establish this vital facility,” he stated.
