Gombe Approves N4.205bn to Pay Gratuity, N31.5bn for Underpass Construction
The Gombe State Executive Council has approved N4.205 billion for the payment of gratuities for 2,204 retired civil servants from the 2019/2020 period. This decision was announced by the state’s Deputy Governor, Manassah Jatau, during a press briefing after the council meeting on Tuesday.
Jatau explained that the approval followed the successful clearance of the backlog of gratuities for the 2014-2018 period, which amounted to over N13 billion. This earlier payment benefitted 5,658 retirees at the state level and 6,027 retirees at the local government level. He highlighted that, since the current administration took office, a total of N17.235 billion has been paid to settle retirees’ gratuities across both state and local government levels.
In addition, the state’s Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, announced that the Council approved N31.547 billion for the construction of an underpass that will connect Yemi Osibanjo Road with the Central Business District (CBD) and the State Secretariat. The project will also include the construction of 18.1 kilometers of road network in the area.
Kallamu explained that the underpass and road network were crucial due to the expected increase in traffic in the region. The construction contract for the project has been awarded to Triacta Nigeria, with a 20-month timeline for completion.
