Gov Adeleke Denies APC’s Allegation of Secret Loans in Osun

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has strongly rejected claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that his administration is secretly taking out loans.

The APC had called on the governor to publicly disclose the state’s financial records, accusing his government of secretly obtaining loans at the expense of the public, which, according to the opposition, were being misused for personal gain.

The APC made the allegation during its end-of-year press conference in Osogbo, the state capital, on Monday. Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, accused the Adeleke-led government of secretly securing a foreign loan worth $51 million (approximately N81.6 billion). He warned that the governor’s actions were putting the future of the state in jeopardy and urged the people of Osun to hold the governor accountable.

The APC further challenged the narrative that the state had not taken any loans, stating that part of the state’s 2024 budget was being financed through the NG-CARES facility.

In response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the APC’s allegations as “fake news.” Rasheed insisted that no loan approvals had been made by the state government since the current administration took office.

“As a member of the executive council from the outset, I can affirm that no loan approval request has been made for any project. This is fake news that the APC continues to spread. The people of Osun are educated and discerning—they know when their government is borrowing,” Rasheed said.

The spokesperson also denied that the state had taken any foreign loans under the NG-CARES program.
