Fire Guts One-storey Building in Lagos
A one-storey building was engulfed by fire in the Lekki area of Lagos on Thursday, just a week after two major fire incidents were reported in the state. The Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) confirmed the incident, which occurred at No. 2A, Abike Sulaiman Street, Lekki Phase 1, at approximately 12:57 p.m.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that the agency promptly responded to the distress call received on the 767 and 112 emergency toll-free lines. Upon arrival, the response team discovered that the building had been fully consumed by the fire. Thankfully, no casualties or injuries were reported.
The swift intervention of LASEMA and other emergency responders helped to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighboring buildings. The fire was completely extinguished, and a dampening down operation was successfully concluded to ensure the area was safe.
This incident follows two other significant fires in Lagos—one at the generator house of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) in Oshodi on Wednesday, and another at a plank market in the Ikotun area on Thursday, which caused substantial damage to goods worth millions of naira.
