Ghanaian President’s ADC Slumps During Principal’s Televised Address Before Lawmakers
Colonel Isaac Amponsah, the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, collapsed during the President’s final State of the Nation address on Friday, while standing behind the President in Parliament.
The incident occurred shortly after President Akufo-Addo began delivering his speech, which focused on his government’s achievements and future plans for Ghana. In a viral video captured during the live televised broadcast, Colonel Amponsah suddenly lost his balance and fell behind the President.
The sudden collapse sparked immediate concern, prompting Parliament’s medical team to rush to the scene. The ADC was swiftly assisted out of the chamber and given first aid before being transported to a nearby medical facility for further treatment.
Visibly concerned, President Akufo-Addo paused his speech momentarily to ensure that Colonel Amponsah was receiving proper care.
Following the brief interruption, the President resumed his address without further disruptions. The speech marked an important moment, as it was Akufo-Addo’s final address to Parliament before the end of his term, reflecting on Ghana’s progress and setting a direction for the future.
An aide-de-camp, as explained, is a senior military officer assigned as a personal assistant or secretary to a high-ranking official, and often participates in ceremonial functions. The ADC is recognized by the aiguillette, a braided cord worn on the shoulder of the uniform, signifying their office.
