Oyo Gov’t Tasks 5,600 New Teachers On Innovation, Modern Techniques

The Oyo State government has urged the newly recruited 5,600 teachers to embrace innovation and modern teaching techniques as they begin their roles in the state’s basic education sector. Dr. Nureni Adeniran, Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), issued this directive during a meeting with education secretaries in Ibadan. He emphasized that the new teachers should approach their work with creativity, adaptability, and a commitment to improving the education system.

Adeniran also announced that the distribution of appointment letters for the new teachers would commence on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the Local Government Universal Basic Education Authorities (LGUBEAs) across the state’s 33 local government areas. The new appointments officially took effect from January 1, 2025.

During the meeting, Adeniran highlighted the importance of maintaining integrity and professionalism in the classroom. He also pointed out that while some local governments are facing a surplus of teachers, others are understaffed. To address this imbalance, a redistribution of teachers will be implemented to ensure equitable staffing across the state.

Encouraging the new recruits, Adeniran said, “As young teachers, you are expected to be creative, adaptive, talented, and progressive. We urge you to be innovative and be the game-changing teachers for the future.” He also expressed that their contributions would be crucial in revolutionizing the state’s basic education sector, in line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s promise to improve education, particularly in rural areas.

In addition to this, Adeniran revealed that the state government had paid ₦2.5 billion as counterpart funding for the 2022 and 2023 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects, ensuring continued infrastructure development in both basic and junior secondary schools.

The SUBEB chairman concluded by congratulating the new teachers and urging them to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics. He praised Governor Makinde for his leadership and commitment to strengthening the state’s education system, ensuring Oyo State remains a leader in educational reforms.
