Police Arrest 575 Suspects in Sokoto
In 2024, the Sokoto State Police Command made significant strides in curbing criminal activities by arresting 575 suspects and recovering a large cache of weapons. Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Musa, revealed these details to LEADERSHIP, emphasizing the command’s commitment to ensuring security in the state.
The recovered weapons include one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) with 6 rounds of live ammunition, 9 AK-47 rifles, 3 magazines, and 341 rounds of live ammunition. Additionally, 4 locally made AK-47 rifles, 2 live ammunition, 1 locally made pistol, and a dane gun were also confiscated. The police also recovered three vehicles and trucks, 97 rustled cows, 29 sheep, one donkey, and rescued 27 kidnapped victims.
The suspects were arrested for various offenses, including culpable homicide, rape, vandalism, drug abuse, motorcycle snatching, fraud, animal rustling, and armed robbery.
CP Musa reiterated his commitment to strengthening the state’s security by implementing innovative strategies to address emerging threats. He emphasized the importance of community partnerships and enhancing the welfare and training of police personnel to tackle these challenges effectively.
