Rescued From ‘Molue’ Bus Accident in Lagos

Tragedy was averted early on Friday when a high-capacity commercial bus, commonly known as a “Molue,” was involved in an accident in the Ahmadiyya area, inward Abule-Egba, Lagos State. Several passengers on board sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash, which caused significant traffic disruptions in the area.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the accident and attributed it to excessive speeding and impatience on the part of the bus driver. According to LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the incident occurred when the bus, registered as KTU 801 XM, lost control due to excessive speed. In an attempt to avoid colliding with another commercial bus and pedestrians waiting at the roadside, the driver swerved sharply, causing the bus to crash into the median and overturn.

Several passengers were injured, and others managed to escape through the bus windows. The LASTMA team arrived promptly at the scene for a coordinated and efficient rescue operation. Eight individuals, including five males and three females, were injured, with the bus driver suffering a fractured left arm. The victims were immediately transferred to LASAMBUS medical personnel and taken to the General Hospital at Ile-Epo for urgent treatment.

To facilitate the free flow of traffic and ensure public safety, LASTMA’s Response Unit was mobilised to remove the overturned vehicle. Officers from the Meiran Police Division also provided security to support the rescue efforts.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended his sympathy to the injured passengers and wished them a swift recovery. He stressed the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, especially speed limits set by the Lagos State Government, and urged both commercial and private vehicle operators to maintain their vehicles regularly to avoid accidents.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring road safety through proactive measures and collaborations with emergency response agencies.
