My Rumoured Defection From APC Fake News, Says el-Rufai

The immediate-past governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has strongly denied the rumors suggesting that he has joined the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political party, labeling the reports as “fake news.”

El-Rufai also threatened legal action against those responsible for spreading the false rumors. He made the statement on his verified X handle, urging the public to disregard the report.

“Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers,” the former Kaduna governor stated.

An aide to El-Rufai, who requested anonymity, also dismissed the rumors in a phone interview, describing the alleged defection as false and the result of mischief makers. The aide further clarified, “It is the handwork of mischief makers. I don’t want to talk about the social media post by the mischief-maker, but the report is false. The former governor did not join PDP or any other party.”

This came in response to online reports and social media claims suggesting that El-Rufai had returned to the PDP to contest the 2027 presidential election. These reports even alleged that he had collected a PDP membership card from Ungwan Sarki in the Kaduna North local government area. However, El-Rufai’s camp has firmly rejected these reports as untrue.
