Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) successfully rescued four kidnap victims after a distress call reported their abduction in Umuokanne, Ohaji LGA, Imo State. According to Force PRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the operation took place on Saturday, January 4, 2025. The police quickly responded, locating the criminals’ hideout and engaging them in a fierce gunfight. During the exchange, two kidnappers were neutralized. The operation resulted in the rescue of the victims, and one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and 21 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition were recovered.

In a separate incident on January 3, 2025, police operatives in Ebonyi State arrested 17 suspects in connection with the murder of Uromchi Okorocha, a man accused by local youths of using witchcraft to kill several individuals. The police said the mob had apprehended Okorocha but chose to take the law into their own hands instead of handing him over to authorities. Despite the police’s quick response, Okorocha was already killed and burned by the time they arrived at the scene in Enohia Itim village, Afikpo LGA.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun condemned the act of jungle justice, urging citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report suspected criminal activities to the nearest police station. The IGP reiterated the police’s dedication to ensuring justice and public safety, vowing to continue their efforts to apprehend those responsible for such heinous crimes.

The police’s swift actions and ongoing commitment to law enforcement highlight their determination to bring perpetrators of violent crimes to justice and safeguard the community.
