WAEC Launches Resit Option for WASSCE Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled a new initiative allowing candidates to retake specific subjects of the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in early 2025, with resit exams scheduled for January and February.

In a statement, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, announced the initiative, named “WASSCE PC1,” which offers students the opportunity to retake exams for subjects they may have failed or wish to improve upon. The resit exams will run from January 24 to February 15, 2025.

“Students who check their results and realize they need to resit one or more subjects have until January 8 to register either online through our official website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” Kapi explained.

Additionally, he confirmed that students whose results were canceled are also eligible to take the WASSCE PC1 exams, provided they have not been barred due to examination malpractices.

Kapi emphasized that this new approach enhances accessibility and efficiency, making it easier for candidates to resit exams without delaying their academic progress.

“Thanks to this initiative, students can avoid being held back for an entire academic year,” he said. He urged all eligible candidates to seize the opportunity to register before the deadline.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), established in 1952, conducts exams in English-speaking countries across West Africa, including Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Liberia.
