34 Terrorists, 6 Soldiers Killed in Borno Attack — DHQ
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed the deaths of 34 terrorists and six soldiers in an attack on a military base at Sabon Gari in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
In a statement, Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, revealed that the identities of the soldiers killed were withheld to allow for proper administrative procedures to inform their families.
According to Major General Buba, the terrorists launched the attack in an attempt to retaliate against the recent killing of their commander and fighters by Nigerian troops. However, the terrorists were caught off guard when troops on a routine patrol returning to base foiled their planned ambush as soon as it began.
The swift arrival of a reinforcement team, which included members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, vigilantes, and hybrid forces, overwhelmed the terrorists. Despite encountering an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that injured the Vigilante Commander, the team was able to decimate the fleeing attackers.
The air component of Operation HADIN KAI also provided critical support by conducting air interdiction on the fleeing terrorists.
The Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) revealed that 34 terrorists were killed and 23 AK-47 rifles, along with over 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, were recovered. Unfortunately, six personnel were killed in action during the operation.
Major General Buba urged the media to respect the process and refrain from publicizing the names of the fallen soldiers until the notification of their next of kin is complete.
He reassured the public that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to its mission of eradicating insurgency and terrorism in the country, emphasizing the unwavering dedication of troops to defeat the terrorists.
