Man Arraigned for Defrauding 12 American Visa Seekers of N14.6 Million

Samuel Dada, a 52-year-old man, has been arraigned before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding 12 individuals of a total of N14.6 million under the guise of securing American visas for them.

The defendant was accused of deceiving his victims, including Olugbemi and Dele, into paying large sums of money with promises of obtaining American visas and job opportunities.

Prosecutor Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi informed the court that Dada is facing charges of forgery and fraud, with a strong likelihood that the crimes were committed within the Magisterial District between January and November 2024. Oriyomi further stated that there was sufficient evidence to justify the defendant’s remand in correctional custody in Ado-Ekiti.

The charges against Dada fall under Section 376(2)(b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021 and Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offenses Act, 2006, which carry serious penalties.

Dada’s defense attorney, Adunni Olanipekun, requested that the court grant bail, assuring that the defendant would not abscond.

Chief Magistrate Mr. Abayomi Adeosun granted bail in the sum of N20 million, with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must possess landed property within the district. The case has been adjourned to January 31, 2025, for further hearing.
