Cultists Kill Ex-Vigilante Leader’s Son, 2 Others in Bayelsa
Armed cultists, suspected to be members of the notorious Greenlanders gang, launched a violent attack on the Igbogene Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Wednesday night. The attackers, about ten in number and armed with dangerous weapons, stormed the community around 8 PM, leaving three people dead, including the son of a former community vigilante leader known as “Money Sweet.”
The invasion caused panic, with residents fleeing for their lives and securing their homes in fear of the attackers. The incident has shocked the community, which is grappling with the tragic loss and rising insecurity in the area.
According to a resident, the first victim was the son of the former vigilante leader, who was gunned down near his home. The second victim, who was not part of the cult group, was killed after refusing to reveal the whereabouts of his older brother.
Initial investigations suggest the attack was related to a violent rivalry between two cult groups, the Bobos and the Greenlanders. It was also revealed that some of the cultists involved in the attack are residents and indigenes of the Igbogene community.
While police reports confirmed the death of three individuals, community members maintain that only two were killed, with a third person currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.
Ezekiel Igbenivie, the President of the Igbogene Youths, confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers had fled the scene but that one of the wounded individuals is still alive and undergoing medical care.
Police teams, including those from Operation Doo Akpo, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the Rapid Response Team, quickly arrived at the scene, helping to restore order. Musa Mohammed, the spokesperson for the Bayelsa Police Command, also confirmed the deaths and identified the victims as 28-year-old Donaldson Mison, 27-year-old Addy Mulan, and 29-year-old Greenboy Dudella.
